Stone carved Verdite Serpentine Lion in full roar with extrordinary attention to muscular detail. Serpentineis a common mineral, usually oily green, often used in architectural and decorative pieces. This carving is signed by an artist named "Matlou" who may be amongst the deceased Kenyan carvers that have died due to the aids epidemic that has decimated the carvers trade in Southern Africa. The carving measures 11" in length and 4" in height.
